New Release: “Leisure”, out June 1st, 2022. ouveure’s “Leisure (feat. Lexic Task)” is a new single release, a collaboration between Matt Kay’s side project “ouveure” and Lexic Task. “ouveure” is a guitar and piano oriented side project, focusing on experimental, post-rock and ambient tones. Lexic Task (also Matt Kay) brings the software modulation on the track, while ouveure brings the highlighted piano melody.

Recurrents Live Sessions, is a live album that runs at 1 hour, 18 mins, recorded in the studio. It was composed and performed using various synthesizers, drum machines, and some tracks had drum programming editing. Hardly any bass synth patches were used. Some tracks, live “moveless transport” and “flour” were taken from sessions dating back to 2016, while most of the other tracks are recent, 2020-2022. The genre is Electronica, with styles ranging from IDM, techno, ambient, ambient techno, and downtempo. The album encompasses a compilation of live performance tracks recorded in the studio. The album releases June 3, 2022, (on pre-order now.)

What makes a non-official vs an official release? Bandcamp, Soundcloud, or formal wide Digital Distribution (#Spotify, #Apple, etc)? Here’s one, still unofficial recently posted to #Soundcloud: #IDM #Ambient #Electronica:

April 27 2022 – “Recur EP” released on Soundcloud and bandcamp. This is a 6 track EP of IDM, ambient, and live jams. most tracks were performed live with korg synths and roland drum machines, with additional mixing of glitchy beats. The EP has an old-school analog synth sound, but in terms of mixing, contains virtual synth and drum sequencing, audio processing, and synth modulation and mixing techniques found in more more current or nu-school productions. (Comment: get to know your synths, there are certain settings within select modules that lead to interesting and exciting new sonic possibilities, and then more interesting tracks).

This is an excerpt of 6 tracks from a 20+ track future release of live jams, b-sides and demos which will be remastered.

New EP, the 4 track sampler of the new album Glacier (out Spring 2022); simply called “Glaciers EP” will be out tonight at midnight, 11:59pm April 14, officially releasing April 15, 2022.

The EP is based on imagery of the glaciers and mountains of the Canadian Rockies and other peaks. The album is IDM and ambient, as musical styles, but also is experimental and defies genres, except in that is it an Electronica release. As a social commentary, it is a statement on climate change.

A brief synopsis of the tracks:

1. “Conscious Lush”: A virtual synth track, with processing and modulation.
2. “Glacier”: Performed live with guitar, bass, an AKAI drum machine, old Alesis synth, Microkorg. The mixed.
3. “Sediments”: Another virtual synth track, with additional mixing within a various micro synthesis.
4. “Doors of Perception”: And old virtual piano, with synth modulation.

ZODIAX FACTS (March 1, 2022)

“ZODIAX FACTS” is the 5th album by Toronto’s Lexic Task. It follows suite in the vein of IDM / Ambient 3rd album, “ADRIFT” (April, 2021). ZODIAX FACTS is a 14 track excursion of IDM electronica into sound synthesis, complex rhythm tracks and sonic exploration through soundscapes via synthesizers, modular synths, programming, soft synths, and drum machines. The album was releasing Feb 11, 2021, now the release date is March 1, 2022. Mark your digital calendars!

Furthermore, I would say the album encompasses the merging of analog gear, in the old school way, with digital synthesis and music production. The album production is an artform in itself, with the use of software, but also analog synths and drum machines, so using the studio as an instrument. The album encompasses the zeitgeist or feel of an ever-changing world, and both the pros and cons of such change. The album releases March 1st, 2022.

New EP “Dryspell (Select 2009-2014)” is a set of b-sides from my first sessions as Lexic Task, back in 2009. The project initially started in 2005 but only as live jam sessions with drum machines and analog synths, where only a select few tracks were distributed free on Myspace and through a few blogs. “Adrift” is the second full length album by Lexic Task (aka Toronto’s Matt Kay). Some tracks are archival, started in 2016, some are new tracks. The album explores Matt’s influences, from more popular acts such as Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Plaid, Nathan Fake, to more underground artists such as LFM, Legion of Green Men, and more.

The Tracks on adrift range from the main electronica sound, to some glitch beats (“Mammals”); to pure ambient and synth soundscapes (“Moonlit River”, “Solemn Space”). The album starts off and veers towards a climax, to a more serious tone in the later half of the album. Overall, the whole album is an excursion into exploring Synthwave and IDM.
